Muse Launches in Japan: Meta's Agent Leaves North America for the First Time

Muse news · October 23, 2026
Meta announced that Muse, its personal AI agent, is now available in Japan — starting October 23 (Japan time). Japan is the first market outside North America, where Muse launched earlier in September. It is Meta's first international expansion of the agent.
What happened
- A new country, on every platform. Muse is available in Japan starting today on iOS, Android and muse.ai — the same places North American users access it.
- Free basics, paid plans for heavier use. Meta says many basic features are free, and subscription plans are available for people who want to use Muse more extensively. The Japanese announcement does not state any prices.
- The connectors travel with it. In Japan, Muse connects to Gmail, Google Calendar and Instagram, and — through global services — to Stripe, Shopify, Trip.com, Agoda and Klook, covering email and scheduling as well as shopping and travel planning and booking.
- Local Japanese services are in progress, not live yet. Meta says it is advancing integrations with Mercari (the flea-market app), Money Forward ME (household finance and asset tracking) and Ticket Pia (ticket sales). The announcement describes these as integrations being developed with those partners — not as connectors already available.
- Some Connect features are not part of this launch yet. The advanced voice mode, Muse Realtime Avatar (English only) and Muse's dedicated email address, all shown at Meta Connect, will be announced for Japan separately once ready, Meta says.
- Same agent, same safeguards. As in North America, Muse plans and carries out tasks — sending emails, booking travel, working toward larger goals — keeps working after you close the app, asks for your approval before important actions like sending an email or making a purchase, and runs on its isolated Muse Secure VM. Meta says Muse cannot see your passwords or payment methods, and conversations and VM data are not shared with Meta's ad systems.
What it means for your business
Your business is probably not moving to Japan — but this launch tells you a lot about where Muse is going:
- Muse is becoming an international channel, not a US experiment. A first launch outside North America, roughly six weeks after the September debut, signals Meta intends to roll Muse out country by country. If your customers, suppliers or partners are abroad, the agent they use to shop, book and organise will increasingly be Muse.
- The pattern for each new country is now clear: global connectors first, local ones next. Stripe and Shopify merchants come along automatically — if you sell through Shopify or take Stripe payments, a customer in Japan can now work with Muse using the same connectors you already rely on, including for travel and experiences through Trip.com, Agoda and Klook. Local services (in Japan: Mercari, Money Forward ME, Ticket Pia) are added afterwards, partner by partner.
- Prepare for agent-driven customers from new markets. As Muse opens in more countries, more buyers will arrive having had an agent compare options, check terms and start a booking or order for them. Clear prices, clear cancellation terms and machine-readable product details on your Shopify or booking pages are what let an agent choose you — in any country.
Try this
Use Muse to check how ready your business is for customers arriving from a newly launched Muse market like Japan:
"Act as my international sales advisor. Here is my business: [what you sell, where you sell it — for example your Shopify store or booking page — and which countries your customers come from]. Muse has just launched in Japan, its first market outside North America, with Shopify, Stripe, Trip.com, Agoda and Klook connected. Tell me: 1) the 3 things a customer in Japan using Muse would need to find clearly on my pages before their agent could buy or book from me, 2) anything in my offer — prices, terms, delivery or cancellation — that would be unclear to a buyer abroad, and 3) one small first step I could take this week to be ready for agent-driven customers from new countries. Keep it in plain English."
